Japan: Subway Groping
I am going to Japan in December and a friend of mine says, “Don’t get groped.”
Wait. What? Groped? This is the first I’m hearing of this. Why would I get groped?
Turns out that there are bands of wild Japanese men roaming the subway systems of Japan groping women. I kid you not. Watch this video. It’s absolutely insane.
It’s such a problem that they have to designate special subway cars “Women and children ONLY” so that there is a safe place for the gals who don’t want to get groped to ride home from work at the end of the day.
These men don’t feel like creeps at all. They act more like “groping enthusiasts.” These guys even have websites devoted to this… men post places and times to meet up so that they can group grope.
So then these groping dudes meet at subway stations and surround and gang up on unsuspecting women and girls… WTF? That’s horrifying and insane. The police are trying to crack down but there’s only so much they can do.
They arrest more than 4000 men a year for groping on public transportation. Police say that they think they arrest about 2% of the actual gropers out there. If that’s true, that means that there are more than 200,000 gropers running around Japan.
I’m a good sized gal and I’m strong… this has me a little freaked out. Have you been to Japan? Were you groped? Should I actually be worried?
